How I Decide Not to Trade
Part-time trading is not about catching every opportunity. The hardest decisions often involve stepping back.
Predefined Conditions
I only take trades that meet criteria established in advance. If price, time, or personal energy doesn’t fit the criteria, I do nothing.
Recognizing Unclear Situations
Uncertainty is inevitable. I avoid trading simply to stay “active.” If the signal is ambiguous, inattention or impatience can create errors.
Emotional Check
If I feel rushed, tired, or distracted, I skip. Trading under emotional duress is not part of my workflow.
Opportunity Costs
Choosing not to trade preserves attention for when it truly matters. It also protects mental energy for work, family, and rest.
Consistency Over Action
Many new traders focus on activity. I focus on consistency. Deciding not to trade is often the most disciplined action in a session.
